New Workshop Dates Announce
The Upper Valley Art League is a community organization whose members are all volunteers. The operation of UVAL is successful because of the work and time its members put in--from maintenance of the buildings to the exhibition of the artwork.
Members serve as greeters and caretakers of the gallery during days when exhibits are open to the public.
Teams assist in the preparation, hanging, and taking down of art for UVAL's monthly exhibits.
Individuals prepare for the exhibit receptions at the opening of the new shows. They may assist in serving and cleaning up after closing.
Individuals or teams volunteer to document exhibits with photographs/video for the website and/or newsletter that goes from UVAL.
Multiple methods are used to get the word out about UVAL: newspapers, television announcements, social media. Individuals volunteer in their area of ease and expertise.
The building needs occasional care of cleaning and upkeep--sweeping, mopping, etc, in all areas. Not the most appealing but a necessity since UVAL is a public building. Work is not hard, especially if a team of volunteers join in the effort.
Needs arise where design for a poster or announcement is needed. Individuals knowledgeable about graphic arts for hard copies or computer are welcome.
The goal is to have a team of individuals who can help oversee the website to ensure it remains current and to offer guidance to those who contribute to its content.
As UVAL expands its online presence, the goal is to have a team who spearheads efforts through all aspects of social media and its platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.
Volunteers to assist at the gift shop are needed during opening exhibits.
Volunteer who can manage the gift shop on the website: featuring items, showcasing artists, how public can purchase items.
Not everything is covered, and individuals can offer other skills not mentioned. Inquire further if interested.
This is a common fear. We respect your commitment whether you can volunteer occasionally or on a regular basis.
There are three types of volunteer gallery assistants who serve at the front desk. (1) regular who generally commit to weekly assistance (2) those who can help 1-2 times a month (3) those who want to serve as substitutes but only when needed. The gallery can remain open as long as we have someone at the front desk, and so all volunteers are welcome to have a part in making this happen. Generally, we need 7 volunteers per week, each taking half a day, or about 30 slots to be filled per month.
Many of UVAL's needs are only occasional. For example, hanging the exhibits are only once monthly; and you do do not have to commit to EVERY month. Ideally, we would like to have a list of 8 people who can assist with hanging so it will not depend on the same 2-3 individuals.
Not everyone is able to volunteer due to work, family commitments, or health. We appreciate you as an artist-member. In your own way, continue to promote UVAL through word of mouth, inviting others to UVAL. For those who can volunteer, we appreciate your time and commitment to the functioning and successful operation of UVAL.
